Sunday 1/29/17 Action Items

There are four special elections in four different states the month of February!

SPECIAL ELECTION JUST ANNOUNCED FOR FEBRUARY 7 in Virginia to replace the seat in the House of Delegates just vacated by Jennifer McClellan. More details coming soon from State Captain: Cindy Michelle Cunningham!

Jeff Bourne has been the chairman of the Richmond School Board and is Deputy Attorney General for transportation, real estate and construction litigation for the Commonwealth of Virginia.

Jeff is running against an Independent candidate and a Libertarian and this House seat is the one seat that prevents the Republicans from having a super-majority in the Virginia legislature, and being able to override Governor McAuliffe’s vetoes. So it is still really important that we make sure people do get out and vote for our guy!

Special Elections Scheduled for Feb. 28. Get ready to mobilize:

Gov. Dannel P. Malloy announced Friday that special elections will occur at the end of February for three seats vacated by lawmakers just ahead of the start of the legislative session.
Elections will be held Feb. 28 for the 2nd Senate District, which includes portions of Bloomfield, Hartford, and Windsor; and the 32nd Senate District, which includes Bethlehem, Bridgewater, Oxford, Roxbury, Southbury, Washington, Watertown, Woodbury and portions of Middlebury and Seymour. An election will occur on the same day for the 115 House District, which includes portions of West Haven.
The elections have the potential to shift the balance of power in either chamber, in particular the Senate, which is currently tied 17-17.

CODE BLUE CORE MISSION: Rebuild a progressive voting majority in federal, state and local government.

We are looking for State Captains so please let us know by replying to this post if you're interested. Co-captains are A-OK! You can find the directory in the Files tab above this post.

IMPORTANT NOTE: this is a STRATEGY group for sharing useful information on upcoming and future elections. It is not a place for posting thought-pieces and opinions on past elections. We are looking to build as wide and inclusive a progressive umbrella group as possible. If you want to have a flame war go do it on your own timeline.

FIRM GROUP POLICY: Keep specific policy discussions to an absolute minimum. WHY: These tend to devolve into heated discussions that don't contribute to the stated goal of the group. We need legislators in seats where they can enact progressive legislation. Sometimes policies are regional, or they aren't your priority. So, this policy is just to maintain focus on that end goal.

ALSO: Code Blue is set to as a Secret Group. If you share posts from here non-members won't be able to see them. Additionally, many members don't want to be publicly known, for many reasons such as privacy, security and trolling. So, we ask that you do not share the name freely elsewhere.

Zero tolerance for trolling. Zero tolerance for sharing members' posts outside the group. Zero tolerance for being uncivil. These will get you blocked.

Please comment here if you have suggested action items or ideas.
